Technology Initiative Grant Categories

Last year, FY 2006, LSC accepted projects in the three application categories: Web Sites, Replication and Open which are detailed below.

The Three Application Categories:

  1. Web Sites – a program may either apply for a new web site grant, a renewal of an existing web site, or a continuation web site. 2006 was the last year LSC considered finding new web sites. Renewal web sites grants cannot be granted if a previous renewal grant was given. If a program has received a renewal web site grant, they should apply for a continuation web site (after submitting a letter of intent to apply for a grant). There are now two grants to further develop the grantee's existing TIG funded web sites: $25,000 for the second year, and $25,000 for the third year grant which covers two subsequent years. To receive additional funding for a renewal or a continuation grant, recipients must complete, report and have LSC's approval for successful achievement of a certain number of milestones which are predetermined and provided by LSC. At the end of every year, programs complete an evaluation also provided by LSC. Recipients of renewal (2nd year), and continuation (3rd year) web site grants must complete evaluations using the Client Web Site Evaluation System, the Advocate Web Site Evaluation System, and the Client Web Site User Interview instruments.
  2. Replication Category - Applications are considered in this category for the replication of successful TIG projects. Although successful, many projects have not been replicated in other states and programs. The key component of a successful application in the Replication category is the balance between effective, simplified replication and a reduced cost of implementation. Applicants should look to previous successful TIG projects and determine how they can be replicated at a substantially reduced cost from the original project.
  3. Open Category - This cateogy is designated for new, innovative ideas for using technology in legal services. LSC will consider any idea as long as the purpose of the proposal is to expand the use of technology that integrates, manages, communicates, and otherwise improves the quality of the delivery of legal services to eligible clients. This category has no funding limit or matching requirement.
